“This isn’t me. I’m not a killer.”
You turn around and see Jahat holding his breath and trying to wrestle away from your grasp. Having
made up your mind, you swim him to the surface next to the capsized boat.
“Can you send some seaweed my way?” You ask the ocean. The ocean abides. After you string up Jahat and
his crew, you use your gift to flip the boat right side up and you attach the tied up crew to the back of the boat. Driving the boat to port, you alert the coast guard on your way and the authorities
meet you on the pier, ready to arrest Jahat.
“Sea daemon! Sea daemon!” Jahat screams while pointing at you as the authorities pull the tied up crew
out of the water. “You cannot trust that sea daemon. It tried to kill us. We did nothing wrong. We were just enjoying the water and that daemon made the ocean swallow us whole and nearly drowned us
all. You have no reason to arrest us.”
The authorities aim their guns at you.
“Search his boat,” you reply with your hands in the air. “This is Jahat. He is a murderer.”
Time ticks away slowly as you hope the authorities find something on the boat to use as evidence. You
look back at Jahat who stares at you with smug confidence. He recognizes your face and the pain in your eyes. He nods his head as if telling you in advance that he holds the fate of your child’s life
in his hands. You know he’ll get away with this. Part of you knows you may never get a better chance at killing him.
“Nothing on the boat sir,” one officer yells to the captain of the authorities.
“I told you. Let me free and arrest that daemon,” Jahat demands.
All of the officers keep their guns pointed at you and step toward you. Jahat grins from behind
them. You can’t get to him. You take a step back and then drop off the pier into the water again. You swim directly under the pier and head back out to sea.
